Colombia's Jewelry - Treasure Hunt in the Streets of Bogotá

When I visited my sister in Colombia a few weeks ago (see details from the trip in a soon to come post), I did not expect to basically double the amount of jewelry I own. I had done some research on fashion designers from Colombia, which there are many great ones, Bogotá is basically the fashion capital of South America, but did not look into jewelry. For most of my life I have just not been that interested, I own a few pieces by designers that I got to know in Los Angeles, that's it. I actually just got my ears repierced last October, after not having worn earrings for about a decade. Long story short, on my first day in the country my sister takes me through the old town of Bogotá, and it's a treasure trove of colorful, intricately made jewelry of all kind of different styles: leather, seeds, glass pearls, string (think friendship bracelet).

I was really blown away by some of the glass pearl necklaces - stunning to look at! At first I was hesitant because I wasn't sure if I'd actually wear them in New York, but I got two of them - it'll be an easy way to turn a simple dress into something extraordinary.

The rest of the things I bought are less attention grabbing, and more of a twist on things I already own - hoops, but delicately weaved out of natural materials, relaxed bracelets made out of different colored seeds, a deep red leather choker.

All of this I bought in small boutiques of off the street, but I found a couple of etsy shops from Colombia who offer similar pieces. Try: KolumbienArte and NekoHechoAMano.

I loved the dyed edges of this leather bracelet. Fit perfectly with my well worn go-to summer shoes: Huaraches!

Same bracelet, different colored seeds. They come in all colors, but I liked the neutral ones.

These are made out of wood, love the simplicity!

There's a touch of red in these hoops!

This will also look great with sleeveless dresses.

This was my first beach day of the season, and I discovered a new one here in NYC. I was all by myself - lol, not sure if that will stay this way throughout the summer.
